[personal profile] dawn_felagund posting in [community profile] silwritersguild
On Tuesday, I will be closing the survey about how to handle the [livejournal.com profile] silwritersguild LiveJournal community and using the results to discuss with my comods how we want to proceed. If you have not taken it yet and want to, please take the survey here.

In light of LJ's new and draconian Terms of Serve, we are seeking member input on whether we should comply with the ToS, and whether (and how) we should back up the community on Dreamwidth. (Please note that we are not considering shutting down the LJ community but whether we're willing to risk LJ suspending our account by not complying with a ToS that defies important values of the SWG.)

If you'd like to read more on the decision and why we're making it, see this post.

If you'd like to know why the mods are willing to let this community close rather than comply with the ToS, my thoughts on that are here. (Hint: It has less to do with access by minors and more to do with marking content containing LGBTQ+ characters as "adult.")

Thank you to everyone who has shared responses with us so far.

I'm feeling a bit self-defensive now, because I voted to comply (although with reservations) and I'm apparently in a vanishing minority.
So I sort of feel I have to mention that the click-through screen on LJ actually says "may contain adult content". It does not say which bits of content you are regarding as "adult" or how much of it. Although of course I see perfectly well that one is caving in by implication, at least.

But I'm quite happy to go along with whatever the majority want. I do hope the Silm re-read gets backed up properly soon, however, whether to Dreamwidth or anywhere else.

Partly selfish of me--obviously, Lyra and Indy worked much harder on it, but I spent a considerable time compiling recs for the rec posts, as did others, and wouldn't like that work to be lost so comparatively quickly, even if it's only links.
