B2MeM09: Day Nineteen
Day Nineteen
If you could pass on three pieces of wisdom to future generations, what would they be?
Now, from the point of view of a character, what three things would this character want to pass on to his or her children and grandchildren? How similar are they to yours? Write a story, poem or create a piece of art which reflects this. |

At Peace

featuring a conversation between Theoden and Eomer (I get nervous writing scenes that I really care about; does this happen to anybody? I get scared that I won't be able to portray them right. This was one such scene...)

And, yes, those scenes that I have loved and imagined so much are nerve-wracking for me too. :) I always feel like I'm writing to get to them, then when I'm there, I can't possibly do justice to all of the imagination and emotional weight that I've put behind them. :^/
Advice - Dwim
(Anonymous) 2009-03-20 03:01 am (UTC)(link)“Be ever mindful,” his father would say. “The Enemy's snares are many.”
“Be patient,” his mother had said. “Haste so often ends badly.”
“Be strong,” advised his brother, who was entirely too young to counsel but cared not where Faramir was concerned. “War is coming.”
The old man looked upon the anxious, frowning boy with his books and his head full of stories and heart full of cares, and a pair of shoulders that would some sad day stiffen and broaden under years and toil under a sword's edge, and he laughed.
“Lad,” Mithrandir said kindly, “it does you no harm to listen to your elders, for 'tis all well-said, and right. But you shan't hear it rightly, unless you learn to listen well – there is a trick to it, you see.” Leaning on his staff, he hunched down, and looked the seven year-old straight from eye to eye.
“Be fearless,” he said. “See to that” – a gnarled pair of fingers tapped against a skinny breastbone, right over the boy's heart – “and the rest will come, and you'll laugh the better, too, and more often.”

Again, really excellent work here. (I, too, feel like I am repeating myself! :D) The game is really an excellent way for the advice to be shared (and I loved your invented source material too! It read like a real source. :)

However, I like how, in this piece, you've shown how Aragorn came to regard his advice as important. This was really a great scene to show that! Nicely done! :)

This is such a poignant piece. I love how the advice connects so strongly to both Maglor's life to this point and to Elrond's life in the future. Very nicely done! :)
