I don't think you've gone too far. I happen to agree with you. It's a challenge, yes, to imagine, "What would I do if I had forever to do it?" but it's one of the fun things about writing Elves.

And I always think about how human some of their actions are, especially in The Silmarillion. Their behaviors and problems seem akin to what people experience every day.
