Day Two--Mercurial Monday!

For Mercurial Monday, we offer B2MeM participants the choice of two prompts. Participants may choose whichever they prefer. In addition, the second prompt may be used in place of any other prompt in the challenge!

Think of an experience when you realised that you suddenly understood an idea, a skill, or a concept you had been struggling with--it might be something related to a class that you took or a specific skill you were trying to perfect it. Translate this moment to your Middle-earth character and capture this in a story, poem or piece of art.

Bob Dylan says "Don't criticize what you don't understand." Do you agree with this? Have you ever been criticized by someone who didn't understand you? Think or write briefly about this experience. Now write a story, poem or create an artwork where unfounded criticism plays a central part.

This is a brilliant interpretation of the prompt! I like the working-in of modern life (and what is it that people don't understand about reading a book meaning you do not want company and do not desire to be comforted in your geeky "loneliness"?? You in that diatribe is ... erm ... me, of course. ;)

It's interesting to ponder if Maglor had lived to see JRRT's writings published what he would have thought of them. Is he working on his own answer to them here? (You don't have to answer that, of course, but I find this vignette has really piqued my curiosity! :)

The two farmers sipped their mugs of ale, casting contemptuous glances at the man in the corner.

"Who might he be?” one asked his companion.

“One of them Rangers, I reckon.”

“Looks like a right ruffian to me,” grunted the first man. “How can honest folks sleep easy in their beds with the likes of them around? He looks as if he never did an honest day’s work in his life!”

Aragorn’s keen grey eyes glinted in anger, but he remained silent. Little did these people know of the dark creatures would destroy them without the Rangers’ protection.

Feanor & swords is an interesting relationship to ponder. I like your take here, particularly how he discovered the beauty of the weapon that would bring his downfall. I can understand this: Despite being a pacifist, I follow behind my husband (who practices medieval-style combat) and drool over the swords nearly as much as he does! :) And, of course, the candlelight on the blade is nice foreshadowing. It is again difficult to fathom how you have done all of this in 100 words! :)
