"Into the Woods" Theme Posted
Hi, everyone,
I have posted the compilation for "Into the Woods" and it holds two stories and quite a couple of gorgeous pieces of artwork. The compilation which is all about Doriath and its inhabitants, is here: Into the Woods.
"To Music of a Pipe Unseen", is a fantastic piece of art made by Alassëe where she presents a dancing Lúthien.
Lady Roisin and Eli have co-written a series of ficlets named Children of Doriath where both author's explore the bond between Lúthien and Daeron. The story can be found here.
Please also have a look at the artwork Lyra made that has been made for the above mentioned story, it's named "Melian's Children".
Lady Roisin wrote a short story for this theme, she approached the romance story of Lúthien and Beren from a fresh angle and it's called Lady of the Hunt.
And there is even more artwork:
Szilvi shared two pictures of painted bottles called 'In the Woods of Neldoreth' with us and there is also the piece "Daeron in Neldoreth Neldoreth" by the same artist.
I have also uploaded two new stories that we received the past days for the theme "Five Things". "'What is it?'" is a ficlet series written by Eärillë. Someone was cheeky enough to send several things in Arda, and this piece shows how Adra's inhabitants responded to it.
If you ever wondered how a friendship between Indis and Míriel would have looked like, Five meetings would be an intriguing story to read. Clotho123 explores how would the friendship have been between Indis and Míriel if they had known each other. If you want to know how that might have looked liked, go here.
The due date for our final compilation, "To My Dear," is today. So if you have some last minutes excerpts for older works to send in, do it soon! New works are welcome for all of the themes at any time!
Our birthday celebration is drawing to a close next week. If you want to award any tokens and have not done so, please do-- the forms will be taken off of the website on Saturday the 18th. Thank you to everyone who has contributed so far.
Finally, a gentle reminder that Dawn is still out of town this weekend. Anything to do with the birthday and anything urgent to do with the group or website should be sent to the mods, not Dawn personally, at moderator AT silmarillionwritersguild DOT org. We're simply uncertain how her internet access will be and the mods want to be sure not to miss birthday submissions or other issues that need quick resolution.
Best regards,
Rhapsody

No worries, this isn't a silly question at all! We have discussed this amongst the moderators a week ago that participants can send in new works throughout the month September, but we haven't set an end date yet. I shall bring it up again and I hope we can announce a fixed date very soon. What I wanted to say: new works for all themes are welcome at any time during the birthday event (probably throughout September 2010). People can still award tokens to fellow members at the SWG up until the 18th of September (then the forms go offline) and we don't have an official enddate for the Birthday event just yet. My apologies for the confusion, but please stay tuned!

After that point, I will still technically add new works to the page if people want me to. However, you then run into the dilemma that no one is checking the page, so there's really little benefit in having them added. My post to October's newsletter about the birthday will be the last birthday-related newsletter item. That's why I've been advising people to have stuff in by the end of September. After that point, it's probably in your best interest just to post to the archive where it's easier for readers to find the story.

What we mods are hoping to do, once we polish off our to-do list, is to add a separate gallery for Silmarillion-based artwork. We have a lot of artists in our community and want to be able to share art as well as writing. I realize that the artists are kind of the red-headed stepchild in the group right now, and I don't like that one bit. :) If it doesn't look like the gallery is something that we can finish in the next few months, my comods and I may open the question of using the writing archive as a temporary home for artwork as well.
And in that case, what happens with artwork based on stories posted at the site?
It's early morning here, my brain is still on vacation, and I'm interpreting this question two ways and not sure which you mean, so I'll answer both and hope I hit it. :)
Artwork posted as part of the birthday compilation (i.e., up on one of the pages at http://www.silmarillionwritersguild.org/birthday/) will remain where it is on the birthday page. We accept artwork for our compilations; we just don't accommodate stand-alone artwork on the archive itself right now (for technical reasons that I won't get into unless you or someone else wants to hear them. ;)
Second answer: If you've done an illustration for a story on the archive (your own or someone else's), that piece is welcome on the archive as part of the story it illustrates. What we can't really accommodate right now (for the administrative/technical reasons alluded to earlier) is stand-alone artwork. So if, for example, I wrote a story inspired by "Young Turin," and you agreed to allow me to post your artwork along with my story, that would be fine. What we can't do yet is to post "Young Turin" on its own.
If I've managed to miss answering something (totally possible! :) please just let me know! :)

About that second question (which wasn't phrased well), I was looking for the second answer. However, being archived on the site wasn't in my mind when I asked. I wanted to know if it was ok to post a link to my scrapbook account or lj site if I upload something new :)
