The SWG's July 2017 Newsletter has been posted!

This month we encourage you to participate in our latest challenge. Based on our character biography collection, “New Directions” prompts all fandom writers and artists to create works about a character they’ve never written or drawn before. We also welcome two new members to SWG.

Our character biography for this month is Brodda, by Himring. As the Easterling who marries Aerin against her will, Brodda's story is suggestive of the Easterling people's political situation in Dor-lomin and reveals a character who, rather than serving as a loyal stooge to Morgoth, acts primarily out of self-interest.

Are you looking for something new to read? Our newsletter lists all the stories, essays, and poems added or updated on our SWG archive during the past month of June. If you are keen to know what is happening within the wider fandom world, our Around the World and Web section includes recent articles of interest, fandom events, and calls for papers.

As a mod, I'm selfishly hoping to see a lot of Middle-earth related requests and gifts there, so this makes me happy. :P

Elleth's really good about catching announcements, but if you ever want us to promote something, please let us know! It can be as simple as a link posted as a comment to the last newsletter announcement. (I know how time-consuming announcing and crossposting to multiple groups can be, so the most bare-bones heads-up and we'll do the rest. :)
