Day Twelve
How would you define innocence? Write down at least three words or phrases that represent innocence for you.
Write a story, poem or create an artwork where one observes or realises the innocence of herself or himself, someone else, or a group. |

I haven't gotten to commenting on everyone's latest work yet--y'all have been busy! ;)--but I will. In the meantime, all of the entries I have so far can be found here. If you would like a banner or icon for participation, check here.
If you have no idea what I'm talking about and what is B2MeM and how can you play ... our homepage answers all of that and more. :)

I find it so funny that you always do two versions of Celegorm. It is itself a humorous statement about the fandom!

Here you go: a tale of innocence and innocence lost, in more than one sense of that word.

This is another time when I really wish for a way to speak about a story than to say, "I liked it!" because, while I love your writing (your stories have been some of my favorite discoveries this month), then the topic is still so difficult to read. Change a few details, and it could take place on Modern-earth, not Middle-earth. Yet, as I saw you remark on the HA list today, that would be true; we're still talking about the same narrow and cruel people. :^/
I've been thinking a lot about gender issues in JRRT's stories lately and, hand in hand with that, race issues as well, and how I see the latter addressed relatively less than the former. (You might see more of it, since you write more about mortals; speciesism is more of an issue in Valinor than racism! :) I really appreciated this piece for not only taking on this topic but doing it so well.

(Anonymous) 2009-03-13 03:51 pm (UTC)(link)I'm glad you enjoyed it, and if your thoughts do coalesce into a coherent response, I'd be happy to see what you thought.
Question: what do I have to do to make a link actually work in LJ?
Dwim
Re: Beyond the Pale - Dwim
Links ... I'm not sure why your url isn't converting automatically to a link. It should be. I can only assume that it's because you're an anonymous commenter, and it's maybe a bug in the LJ system? HTML should work; here's the code, if you don't know it already, to create an HTML link:
<a href="URL">TITLE</a>
Sub in your own URL and story title for the capital letters, of course. :)
Re: Beyond the Pale - Dwim
(Anonymous) 2009-03-13 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)In any event, I do use the formula you've shown here. Perhaps it is part of the LJ code not to let anonymous posters create links. :-S
Ah well. Thanks, Dawn.

Re: Beyond the Pale - Dwim
Thanks for the well wishes! :) Luckily, this one's easy. So easy that I hesitate to call it a term paper. But it's proven challenging to find criticism on the novel I'm researching, which is a pain in the neck.

Good to know that the suspense held - in a situation like that, it shouldn't be obvious how the encounter is going to end. After what they've been through, they're more than a little unhinged.
Thanks for your comments! (And nice to see you about again!)

Re: Beyond the Pale - Dwim
It was pretty suspenseful for me. I kept going between: Dwim will save the Dunadan... no, she will save the Haradrim, that would be more poignant... no, the Dunadan, since that's the usual POV... no, the Haradrim since that's the unusual POV... when I read the ending, it just made perfect sense. You're such an awesome writer, I love reading everything you write. Thanks for another amazing fic :-)
Thanks for your comments! (And nice to see you about again!)
Thank you.I really missed it. After a while, I'm realizing that I can't just wait 'til I have time; I have to make time :-)

(Anonymous) 2009-03-14 02:10 pm (UTC)(link):-D That's awesome! I couldn't ask for better than that that story kept you spinning out calculations like that.
Thank you for the compliments to my writing - I have so much fun writing stories, it's great when others enjoy reading them as much as I enjoyed creating them.
I'm realizing that I can't just wait 'til I have time; I have to make time
Too true. Speaking of which, I've made my hour, and there's that paper that needs to be given a point...
I hope to get to read your entry later today, Ledys.

Placing two mugs of ale on the table, the tavern wench batted her eyelashes flirtatiously at the Steward’s heir. Boromir’s eyes lingered on her full lips and ample bosom.
“Would you care to join me somewhere more private, my lord?” she enquired.
“Gladly, beauteous maid!” Boromir licked his lips in anticipation.
“Brother, have a care!” Faramir whispered, tugging at Boromir’s sleeve. “Father would not welcome a match between you and a serving woman, however fair.”
“Who said anything about marriage, my innocent little brother?” Boromir grinned. ”A man may freely sample the wares on offer without having to purchase them.”

This is chilling. You capture their childish fear so well, the irrational (or maybe not so irrational?) fear of monsters; the sensory details are excellent. I can't get those rough hands out of my mind ... *shudder*
