Community Posting Format

We've recently seen a lot more activity here on silwritersguild and that's awesome! However, that means it's also time for a gentle reminder from your friendly community mods to use the correct posting format for all posts made to the community. The correct posting format can be found on our community info page. We've done all the HTML for you, so you just need to copy, paste, and fill in your information. Please also include all content after this section behind an LJ cut. This helps our members choose what content they want to view and saves space on their friends pages.

Newsletter Posted!

Our August 2010 newsletter has been posted over at our website! Usually, I cross-post it here as well, but we've added some new content, and it will never fit in one post. Aside from news from within and around SWG, this month's issue includes a biography of Amandil by nelyo_russandol, in honor of Akallabêth in August, as well as a new Gothmog and Draugluin comic by pandemonium_213. We've added a section for all of the new, updated, and completed stories added to our archive during the month, so if you're looking for something to read, this is a great place to start each month. In addition, for Akallabêth in August, we've put together a list of all of the Second Age stories on the archive and encourage our members to check a few out and consider adding their own Second Age story to the archive this August.

Birthday Update

The schedule of due dates for older work being submitted for our birthday compilation is up on the birthday page. Please note that the schedule has been rearranged a bit. The "Most Sinister Villain" theme has been bumped back; the first theme is now "Who? A Celebration of Minor and Original Characters." Older work that you'd like included in the compilation for this theme is due on August 7. That's just a few days away, so please send it in soon. There is a form on our website for sending in work for the birthday event, or you can email it to us directly. Remember that if you're created new work for one of the themes, there is no due date. You can send it to us at any time, and we will add it to the appropriate compilation.

We've added three new tokens as well:

	Velvet Darkness. A token to honor those writers who write dark-themed stories, or characters who live through times of pain, grief and cruelty.
	The Power and the Passion. A token for First Age stories that illuminate the lives of many wonderful and tragic characters: Their despair and hope, their loves and hates, the moments of laughter and tears.
	The Stars of Westernesse. A token awarded to those authors who bring the people and events of Númenor to life.

Remember, every one of you can select an author or a specific story to award a token to! It's a great way to honor the people and the stories that have inspired you over the years. Click here to view a list of all tokens and here to award a token to a favorite story or author.

We are still accepting ideas for new themes and tokens, but only for a few more days! The due date for new themes and tokens is August 7, so please send your ideas soon. It takes only a few minutes, and the forms can be found on the birthday page.

I suspect you have a little blooper in the schedule - it says that for the last theme, The Songfic That Wasn't, the "due date" is September 1st while the "posting date" is August 4th. Somehow that doesn't feel quite right ;)
