February 2011 Newsletter Posted
Feb. 1st, 2011 08:36 pmI've just uploaded the February 2011 newsletter onto the SWG website:
http://www.silmarillionwritersguild.org/news/february2011.php
In News this month, we reveal this year's Back to Middle-earth (B2MeM) project: Passport to Middle-earth. This is an annual Tolkien fandom event that we participate in. It will begin on March 1 and feature daily writing/art challenges. Also, we like to periodically focus on the different volunteer jobs in which our members can participate. This month, we focus on character biography substitutes, those writers who help us out when Oshun, our regular biographer, needs a month off.
Speaking of, Oshun has written another of her thought-provoking biographies, this month on Earendil. Earendil's staying power through multiple drafts of the "Silmarillion" attests to his importance, both to the story and as a character with strong connections to important archetypes and themes. In "Linguistic Foolery," Darth Fingon considers the Elven concept of lámatyávë and how it can help guide you in naming your original characters. Don't know what it is? Then the article was written for you!
We continue our "When the Storm Breaks" challenge this month, but we also revisit the "One True Love" challenge in honor of Valentine's Day or, if you hate the holiday, just to heat up a month that is cold and bleak for many of our members! The newsletter also contains a listing of all stories updated and completed during the month of January and news from groups beyond the SWG.
Here's the link one more time:

Thanks, as always, to our columnists and contributors! I hope everyone enjoys! :)
