We are beginning the process of matching authors/artists with cheerleaders for the Season of Writing Dangerously, and we're coming up a bit short on cheerleaders, so we'd like to remind and encourage folks to sign up as cheerleaders! In particular, if you're signed up as an author/artist and want a cheerleader to help you with your own progress, we will do our best to match you up with another participant so that you can remind and encourage each other over the next three months.

You will work with your assigned author/artist to determine what cheerleading entails. Obviously, you will work at your own comfort level and within your own time constraints. Ideas for for what cheerleaders might do include reminding participants completing challenge prompts about due dates, checking in with participants about progress, sending encouraging notes, brainstorming for ideas to break through a writer's block, or meeting on chat while working on a piece to help and encourage each other. Some cheerleaders might be comfortable acting in more of a beta role or in reading and offering comments on drafts. You and your assigned author/artist should work out the details of what works best for both of you.

Please do consider signing up! :)

Over the past few days, we've received a couple of questions that we thought were worth sharing with the group as a whole, since usually for each person who asks, five people are wondering.

Can I continue to use my usual beta or writer's group for support, even if I've requested a cheerleader?

Absolutely! This event serves only to provide a source of motivation to make progress on those never-quite-done projects or to start working on new ideas for stories and art. You don't have to keep your project under wraps or share it only with your cheerleader. We encourage participants to use all of the support available to them!

Do I have to post my project publicly or share it with the mods in order to get credit for it?

You do not. As with B2MeM and other events where we offer awards for reaching a goal, we rely on the honor system. If you say that you've met your goal, that's good enough for us!

Due to my time off at the beginning of the month, the newsletter is a bit late this month, but it's finally here!

We have lots of news from within the SWG this month: updates about Season of Writing Dangerously, a new reference essay by Esteliel in the Reference Library, a call for help with the Library of Tirion, and a minor change to the Site Etiquette/ToS to fix an inconsistency between that and our ratings policy. We also have a reminder of what counts as Silmfic for the purposes of our archive--and it's almost always more inclusive than you may think!

We also have announcements and challenges from groups beyond the SWG.

Enjoy!
