Our August newsletter has been posted!
This month's challenge, "A True Leader", honors those women who served as leaders in varying capacities by using their quotations as prompts. After an unusual month of June without new joiners, we are pleased to welcome SWG's new members who registered during July.
August's Character of the Month biography is Melian, by Oshun. One of the Maiar, Melian is to credit for the safety and subsequent ascendancy of Doriath under her guardianship. This article explores the first half of the canon about her life and especially her status as a strong female character within the legendarium.
This edition also includes Celebration Day: Samwise Gardner's Birthday (Part 1), by Lindariel. First in a two-part series, this article discusses canonical foods that might have been used to celebrate Sam's birthday, investigates their history, and offers recipes to try at home.
As every month, all newly posted and updated fanworks in our archive can be found in the New at the Archive section of the newsletter.
Around the World and Web brings you a collection of the latest articles of interest and announcements to participate in events within the Tolkien fandom and beyond, as well as challenges, conferences, calls for papers, and more.
Join me in thanking our team of newsletter volunteers: Elleth, Angelica, Oshun, Lindariel, and Dawn, who brought you this month's edition.
