[personal profile] periantari asked for: "about how Elwing (or Earendil) felt when they parted from their sons, Elrond and Elros, fearing that they might have died" and possibly also "a poem on what motivated Maglor to not kill the brothers but instead, rear them as his own."

So here you are, one of each and hope you enjoy :)

Seagull flight

Spreading wings, touching the sea, caressing the surface
A child’s dream realised
In  a moment of despair.
Exhilaration takes the fear, the sadness, the grief
The wind beats
Lifting me invisible currents
Then reality crashes into newfound wings.

I left them behind, the dear ones, the loved ones, my sons
As once my brothers, twins,
Lingered and died, forgotten.
Will they die, nest-less, deserted, waning to skin, bones
Torn by beasts
Remains scattered over sea, field, forest
slaughtered lambs fallen to Feanorian harshness

My seagull-voice screams, pain, despair on easterly winds
blameless sacrifices,
My babes, left for greater good
Cursed be they ever, proud princes, cruel persecutors
Worshippers
of blood, unrepentant sinners, ever evil
Fighting their lost cause as darkness strangles, ever-growing
Blasphemous souls, ever lost.

Souls already lost.

Only two remain now, the oldest and then I
What will we leave behind but blood and death?
Had Valar still had mercy
We would have fallen here at last
To rest by Ambarussas’ side
In sea or earth or dust.

In Doriath’s forests we lost the last of light
My brother took that harder far than I
The scared and shivering children
Their knives held tightly in their hands
Abruptly offers hope, redemption
To souls already lost.
