March 29: Mordor
Once the inhospitable Black Land, Mordor is now home to many historic sites! Climb the Endless Stair to Cirith Ungol, the ruins of Minas Morgul, and visit the Morannon, site of the famous Battle of the Black Gates! Thrill seekers will enjoy hiking on active volcanoes, while travellers looking for some R&R can soak in one of the region's many hot springs.
Today's Challenge:
"Darkness is only driven out with light, not more darkness."
--Martin Luther King, Jr.
Write a story or poem or create artwork where your character battles and overcomes their darkest hour.
Passport Stamp:
Once you complete the challenge, you may save today's image or copy the code below to display your passport stamp wherever

Rhapsody has asked me to pass along a message to those authors to whom she is assigned for passport updates: Due to family illness, she will likely be unable to keep up with timely updates for the next few days. No worries--the stamps are coming just as soon as the germs abate! :)

Date: 2011-03-29 01:13 am (UTC)BTW - Thanks so much for having the sidebar for my auction item. The auction is closed, and it was a Tolkien fan/SWG reader who bid high on it. She's thrilled, I'm thrilled, and we couldn't have done it without you. Le hannon.

Date: 2011-03-29 01:18 am (UTC)And by all means, please keep making things hard for me! ;) I have absolutely no complaints about the amount of participation we've seen this year and the staying power of those of you who have stuck with the challenges till the end! Lots of effort always goes into planning these things, and to see them enjoyed and resulting in awesome writing and art is reward in itself. :)

Date: 2011-04-23 07:25 pm (UTC)Characters: Elrond; discusses Isildur and Maglor
Word Count: 1,472 words
"The Ruling Ring passed out of the knowledge even of the Wise in that age; yet it was not unmade. For Isildur would not surrender it to Elrond and CĂrdan who stood by. They counselled him to cast it into the fire of Orodruin nigh at hand, in which it had been forged, so that it should perish, and the power of Sauron be for ever diminished, and he should remain only as a shadow of malice in the wilderness. But Isildur refused this counsel...."
