March 4: Mithrim

If you're looking for quiet and relaxation this vacation, one of Mithrim's cozy bed-and-breakfast inns will make you feel right at home. Escape the noise and bustle of the big city with walking tours of Mithrim's famous fortress and Edain settlements, where you will enjoy living history exhibits depicting life in the First Age.

Today's Challenge:
"There would be no one to frighten you if you refused to be afraid."

-Ghandi

Write a story or poem or create artwork where the character conquers his or her fears.

Mithrim Passport Stamp Passport Stamp:
Once you complete the challenge, you may save today's image or copy the code below to display your passport stamp wherever HTML is acceptable. To have your stamp added to your passport, please comment on this post.

Since we're a few days into the challenge, now is a good time to remind participants that we never have due dates associated with our challenges. You are more than welcome to complete past challenges and claim your stamps for them!

Please leave a comment here when you finish your challenge response so that we can add the Mithrim stamp to your passport. If you have the response posted publicly, please do share a link as well so that others can read your work!

Finally, just a reminder that challenge responses need only respond to the challenge in the blue box. You do not need to include today's location (Mithrim) in your challenge.

It's a bit later than I like (thanks to my insanely crazy offline life right now), but the March edition of our newsletter has been posted!

http://www.silmarillionwritersguild.org/news/march2011.php

March is, of course, Back to Middle-earth Month, and in honor of Tolkien's complete legendarium, [livejournal.com profile] heartofoshun has written a biography this month that bridges between The Silmarillion and The Lord of the Rings. Although Gildor only appears in LotR, his story connects to the history of The Silmarillion and is one of the best illustrations of the deep mythological and historical story that exists beyond the lines of LotR. Oshun's biography explores the popular conjectures about Gildor's history and the connections to the mythology of our own world. As always, the biography is impeccably researched and well worth a read!

Of course, our newsletter also contains news from within and beyond our group, and a complete listing of all stories added to the archive during the month of February.

An extra special thank you to our newsletter contributors, who are working on tighter-than-usual deadlines because of my internship and have come through nonetheless to keep the newsletter alive. Many, many thanks!
