'Tis the Season of Writing Dangerously! Author/Artist Sign-ups

We all have them. That story that's been collecting dust since the Second Age. That brilliant idea that there's never time to actually write. The artwork in need of completion or novel in need of polishing.

This year, we challenge you to take on one of those projects.

The Season of Writing Dangerously is open to all authors and artists in the Tolkien fandom who want to use the next three months to make progress on one of those never-quite-done creative projects. You don't have to pledge to finish, and you set your own goal. You can find answers to common questions and more information on how to participate on the Season of Writing Dangerously homepage on our website.

All participants and all participants who meet their goal will receive an award banner at the end of the season. Where and how to begin? Right here, by declaring your goal. We'll check back with you at the end of the season to see how you did and send you your award! (You can revise your goal during the season if you need to increase or decrease it.)

Remember, you set your goal, and no goal is too small or too ambitious! We're setting no limits on goals, just providing support along the way and shiny banners at the end!

We're also encouraging folks to sign up as cheerleaders and help cheer a participating author or artist to success! Please see this post for more information on what cheerleading involves and to sign up.

Goal: Helyanwe has been popping out in bits and pieces since March. I would like to start telling her story, filling in the gaps and fleshing her out so that her story is more complete. I have no idea how many words or stories this will take. It will incorporate stories that have already been written, but also new stories to tie everything together. (As of early September I have a Prologue and 11 completed chapters, chapter 12 in the works, a full outline of where her story will take her, and the work of a year (at least) ahead of me. SoWD was the kick I needed to begin her story in full and I'm very happy with what I have put together thus far.)


Would you like a cheerleader? Absolutely. Since I usually operate by prompts, this will be something that doesn't have a prompt so a cheerleader may be the only thing to keep me on track.

Ok, I seriously underestimated the amount of time and brainpower necessary to handle life with a new-born. So I'm lowering my goal to avoid unnecessary stress/guilt!

Was not anticipating limited computer access this summer. Oops. But I have a laptop now! And it even has Word on it! And my files :)

I've managed to post one chapter of 'Lessons from the Mountain,' and make a few minor edits to previous chapters, but there's no way I'm going to have any time to do more before the deadline.

So, my new goal is to finish (and post) 'Lessons from the Mountain' before I leave the country in January. It's okay if I don't get a banner for that ;). I just want to tie up this loose end that's been dangling for 3 years now!
