Over the past few weeks, my comods on the SWG and MPTT have been working hard to put together this year's Back to Middle-earth Month event, and we are ready to announce the event at last!

2012 is the 75th anniversary of the publication of The Hobbit, the book that introduced the world to Middle-earth and paved the way for The Lord of the Rings and, eventually, the posthumous publication of The Silmarillion, among other books. In honor of this milestone, Bilbo Baggins' uncle Bingo Baggins has decided to do what Hobbits do best: throw a party! And what else to do at such a party than play BINGO?

If you've never played BINGO, it's a straightforward game. Each player holds one or more cards containing 25 numbered squares. When a number on your card is called, you mark off that square. The first player to mark off five squares in a row (vertical, horizontal, or diagonal) wins the game. We will call a new number each day, throughout the month of March.

Of course, we've added an extra twist: Before you can mark off your number, you will have to complete a challenge. Each card will have a theme, and you can claim the cards with themes that intrigue you the most. (For example, of the cards I've created already, themes include poetic forms, the sons of Feanor, and review challenges.) You can claim as many or as few cards as you want.

B2MeM will begin in just over a month, and if it's going to be a fun challenge, then players will need a variety of cards to choose from. And this is where you can help us now. Anyone is invited to design BINGO cards for our game, so we hope many of you will challenge your fellow players by helping us to design cards!

For more information on this year's event and how to get started, please see (and join!) our shiny new [livejournal.com profile] b2mem community. Rules and more information for this year's event can be found here.

The SWG and MPTT--the groups hosting this year's event--also have B2MeM pages up on their site, where you can see the cards currently available, choose a participant banner, and learn more about how to get involved:

B2MeM on SWG
B2MeM on MPTT

As always, this is an event for the entire Tolkien fandom, not just members of the hosting groups. If you know other Tolkien fans or groups who might be interested in participating, please do pass the word along--all are welcome!

I'm already thinking of claiming the reviews one, because it's something I could do in less than two days, and the one about the Sons of Fëanor, because I'll take any excuse to draw them XD

I would seriously love to see the Maglor in History card in action. Especially the roaring twenties and French revolution ones. I don't know if I'd have the creativity to fill them to my own satisfaction, but I would love to read them. Oh, and the sons of Feanor one too.

I've greatly enjoyed all the SWG challenges I've taken part in and much appreciate all the hard work you put into making March a month to look forward to.

What a brilliant idea! This is going to be so much fun.

I'd like to help creating cards and downloaded the template already - so do I just go wild, or would you like to tell me what themes ought to be covered, or what?

Love this!

Can I claim a card already?

Cool, we'll see what the brain cares to offer then :)

And a little note: On the Card Claim page, the first sentence reads "You may claim as many cards as you one". I'm assuming that "one" should be "want"? ;)

Okay, so check off means I click on the box near the one I want? Sorry, but I'm a bit confused. =)

Very nice approach to B2Me Month! I might just nab that reviewer's card.

Re: busy schedules -- may it be so!

Also, after revisiting my rather awful (but irreverently fun) comics this weekend, I'd happily consider nabbing a card theme to which I might apply Lil Gothmog, Stinky Pete, and crew. :^D

Just to clarify: more than one person can claim a card?

Also-- and this may just be my computer-- if I click on "cards already created," I only see "First Lines." Are the others not up yet?

I'm tempted to design some. Now to decide on themes… :D

Okay, just clicked in Sons of Feanor, which is the one I want, and all the page looks the same to me now. But as long as it's clear what I want, I'm happy with it.=)

It doesn't show you the other cards when you click on the [view] thingy? (Took me a while to figure that one out, which is why I'm asking.)

Oh, this is going to be so awesome!

I'm willing to put together femslash and/or SIlm ladies bingo cards, unless someone's got them covered already.

No problem!

'nother question: I need (of couse) permission on graphics that aren't in the public domain, but what about fonts? I know that some of them are "free for personal use", but would that extend to something like a community event? I am so clueless.

Also, I have such horrible ideas. XD
