Warnings: Expletive Language, Mature Themes, Sexual Content--Graphic, Violence--Moderate
Summary: What if Erestor had been part of the House of Fëanor from the beginning, in Aman? An AU look at the crumbling house of Fëanor through the eyes of one of Middle-earth's loremasters.
Why I enjoyed it (optional): Works for this chapter and those immediately following it. It's a story of the fragmentation of the house of Feanor, immediately preceding the flight of the Noldor. Painful to read, but vivid in detail.

Summary: This quote from the story is a decent summary: "Fëanáro and Nolofinwë were like two ill-matched, out-of-control horses dragging a cart behind them, scattering crates of produce and squawking chickens in their wake as they tore off down the road. His Grandfather Finwë recalled to him nothing so much as a drunken teamster who had passed out at the reins. It was frightening to think that the fate of their people rested upon such an unstable basis."
Why I enjoyed it (optional): Well, I wrote it so...enjoy would be a strong word for my experience, equal parts of pleasure and pain maybe. (I do think it is one of my best stories.) Actually, was an opportunity to develop some background of my ongoing story of Fingon and Maedhros, explaining how the "Unrest of the Noldor" affected them personally.

Date: 2014-03-23 11:38 am (UTC)Type of Fanwork: Novel.
Length:351153
Rating: Explicit. (NC17)
Warnings:Incest, rape, non-con, slash/femmeslash, violence, character death.
Summary:A novella of the House of Finwë from the Darkening of Valinor to the fall of the Last Alliance upon the slopes of Mount Doom. (The first 8 chapters deal with the unrest among the Noldor).
Why I enjoyed it (optional): This is a huge tour-de-force of a novel, and still a work in progress. I love it because it is gritty, but beautifully written. I very rarely feel indifferent to any of the characters; I either love them or can't stand them, but that does not lessen my enjoyment. There are a lot of surprises in this, and things to make one curse and cry. Not for the faint of heart or canon purists, but very powerful!
SSP incoming!
Date: 2014-03-23 05:20 pm (UTC)Type of Fanwork: Fic.
Length (if applicable): 32,954 words.
Rating: Mature.
Warnings: Mature themes.
Summary: Fingon and Maedhros in the bliss of Valinor.
Why I enjoyed it (optional): Well, I wrote it and enjoyed the process, mostly. It's a story about Fingon and Maedhros' burgeoning relationship, with the backdrop of the Unrest of the Noldor -- although the protagonist doesn't see it as such, until it's a bit too late. Alas. Still, it's somewhat optimistic.

Summary: The scene of Fëanor threatening Fingolfin with his sword in the King's council chamber
Why I enjoyed it (optional): I love all the different reactions as shown in facial expressions and body language. Fingolfin is shown from the back, so you can't see his face, but it's clear from his posture that he's not afraid.

Type of Fanwork: Story
Length (if applicable): Novel (WIP)
Rating: Mature
Warnings: Battle violence and later sexual situations--consensual and non-slash
Summary: This story tells the history of Oropher and Thranduil's lives as Sindarin lords in Doriath, refugees of the destruction of Beleriand and rulers of Greenwood the Great.
The first part of the story, set in Doriath during the First Age, explores Oropher's role in Elu Thingol's court, his participation in the Wars of Beleriand, his interaction with the Noldor and the establishment of the family that would become the House of Oropher.
Definitely a Sindar-centric piece looking at the First Age events throught their eyes.
