Summary: Chronicles the last days of once-great Númenor from the time Sauron "surrenders" to the fall of the empire. An epic tale of political intrigue, the desire for immortality and love, sorcery, hubris, loyalty, lust, and catastropic amounts of water. Volume I concerns the events surrounding the Númenórean King Ar-Pharazôn's march back to Umbar with Sauron as his conniving prisoner, and features a love story between Ar-Pharazôn's courtesan and a page.
Why I enjoyed it (optional): Epic!

Stunning writing, visuals are amazing, one of the most chilling villain POVs I have read and in her series of Sauron stories Pande, in my own opinion, has no equal. Sauron recounts the first human sacrifice in the temple of Armenelos.

Date: 2014-12-05 04:52 am (UTC)Rating: PG
Warnings: adult themes
Summary: In Ar-Pharazôn's palace on Númenor, Isildur's wife encounters peril, temptation, and unlooked-for help.
Why I enjoyed it (optional): Vivid and believable characterizations; lyrical prose.
Title: ”A Tempest’s Name” by Pandemonium (http://www.silmarillionwritersguild.org/archive/home/viewstory.php?sid=635&chapter=4)(part of the anthology Into This Wild Abyss. (“http://www.silmarillionwritersguild.org/archive/home/viewstory.php?sid=635))
Rating: Teens
Warnings: [I don't think any of the anthology warnings apply to this piece? Darkish tone/themes overall]
Summary: With the onslaught of increasingly powerful and terrifying storms as well as the afflictions of pestilence, the people of Númenor question Ar-Pharazôn's preparations to invade the Blessed Lands and doubt the Zigûr's ability to withstand the wrath of the gods. Through a combination of his arts and the power of a tempest, Mairon puts these doubts to rest.
Why I enjoyed it (optional): A compelling glimpse into the keen and ordered mind of a character to whom Tolkien did not do sufficient justice, and a memorable instance of Pandë “scientifictitious” take on the Legendarium. Additionally, Elleth’s illustration is very striking.
