Our June 2015 newsletter has been posted over at our website:

http://www.silmarillionwritersguild.org/news/june2015.php

This continues to be a busy year for us here at the SWG. We are turning 10 (!!) in just under two months and are in the midst of planning our celebration for that. (Please note that we are still in rather desperate need of help with graphics for our birthday cards, so if you're good with graphics and can offer even a small amount of assistance, please let us know!) And in just under two weeks, Oshun and I will be presenting at the New York Tolkien Conference and the SWG will be set up in the Iaurond Room. And Pandemonium and Elfscribe have received some very cool kudos in the mainstream press! Full details on all of those things can be found at the link above.

This month's newsletter features a biography of Aerin, written by Himring. First of all, I think it is fair to describe the circumstances under which Himring wrote this biography--which also happens to be her first for our site--which started with an email from me on Saturday that went something like, "You said once that you'd pinch-hit on the bios at the last minute ... exactly how last-minute did you mean??" But one would never know from the essay that she had less than two days to write it in: It is excellent, and I learned a lot from it. Aerin is a rather minor character in the story of Morwen and Turin, but like many of Tolkien's minor characters, once you dig through the various versions of the texts, there are actually a lot of details in there and even more hints at what could be details. It is a fascinating read, and I hope many of you will check it out.

The newsletter also contains a list of stories added and updated during the month of May, as well as two challenges for the month: Crime & Punishment and Sibling Rivalry. Finally, in the Around the World and Web section, you will find some articles that we found interesting this past month, as well as lots of goings on outside of the SWG: challenges, ficswaps, lectures, surveys, and calls for papers.

Many thanks to Rhapsody and Angelica for their help putting together this month's edition, and a HUGE thank you to Himring for her excellent essay done under enormous time pressure. (And yes, I will be doing better with setting calendar alerts so that I don't somehow manage to miss the end of the month again ...)

I hope everyone enjoys the new edition!

Thank you so much, Dawn!
You were so very helpful! I see you've even made those two additions already that I requested!
