Hi! I have a question for you. If Teleri had Swan Ships, what do you think Noldor would put on theirs? A Dragon? Jewels? A Hammer? I just need this small detail for a fic. What do you think?

I like the idea of horses! Depending on the time when the story takes place, they wouldn't have known about dragons yet (and probably wouldn't feel too kindly toward beasts that roasted their soldiers in battle either!) But we know Maedhros gifted horses to Fingolfin, so it seems they were rather proud of them. And we know where Noldorin pride goes ... ;)

It's for my AU post FA story. I also believed that dragons might be a problem. Fire too, but it's also related to something familiar to them.

The Noldor would probably run wild in devising figureheads of all shapes and sizes - one more imaginative and more detailed than the next. I can imagine them using all sorts of designs, from the hammer you suggested to the flames ysilme mentioned to samtyr's horses to the Eagles of Manwe (as well as any other swift bird), or waves to out-wave the real waves, or trees, or whatever else may look prestigious, fast, sturdy or relevant to the ship's name. I totally see the Noldor as competitive and eager to (at the very least) "keep up with the Jones", so anything might be fair game. (Even swans. As long as they look more impressive than the Telerin ones! ;))
