November 2017 Newsletter Posted!
Nov. 1st, 2017 08:16 pmThe SWG's November 2017 Newsletter has been posted on our website!
Over forty days, thirty five creators have contributed to Silmarillion40, a compilation of over 100,000 words of stories and poetry and 16 pieces of artwork. This compilation celebrates the amazing stories that never cease to captivate us, as well as the thriving fandom community that has grown from this shared love. Don’t miss the compilation, and please spare a few minutes to review the work of the writers and artists that shared their creations with us all!
Our current challenge “Behind the Scenes” prompts you to pick a key moment or event in the long history of Arda and to write a fanwork about what was happening at that moment in time, anywhere but at the site of the action.
This month Oshun presents the biography of Ancalagon. Oshun calls Ancalagon the "darkest and most powerful weapon of Morgoth" and, in this month's bio, explores what we know of this greatest of dragons, Tolkien's fascination with dragons, and the story's role in providing rare eucatastrophe in The Silmarillion.
The “New at the Archive” section lists all the stories, essays, poems and artwork added or updated on our SWG archive during October, so browse and enjoy. To keep up to date with what is happening within the wider fandom world, our Around the World and Web section brings you a selection of recent articles of interest, fandom events, and calls for papers.
As always, the SWG newsletter is created through the combined efforts of a team of volunteers. Join me in thanking Dawn, Oshun, Elleth and Angelica for writing and compiling our newsletter content this month.
