silwritersguildIt’s been two weeks since our Holiday Feast challenge started (find the challenge guidelines here)! As the challenge lasts two months and we don’t want the first contributions to be overlooked or forgotten in this busy season, we’re going to post regular round-ups to celebrate the fanworks already created.
So here is your first serving of lovingly prepared dishes for our fandom feast! The links go to the respective Table of Contents, where you can view more information about the story. If you enjoy an author's work, please consider dropping them a comment to let them know!
Starters
A Trace of Light by Silver Trails. Glorfindel misses his cousins and feels lonely after Fëanor is exiled to Formenos.
Lovely, Dark and Deep by StarSpray. Elwë gets sidetracked on his way to visit Finwë.
Fish Course
Music and Song by Silver Trails. Little Maglor hears Omar's and Salmar's music for the first time in his life.
Main Course
Light and Darkness by Silver Trails. Caranthir and Aegnor meet again after the crossing of the Helcaraxë.
Fate and Free Will in Arda by Lyra. An informal bibliography with tongue-in-cheek commentary.
That appears to be all for this week! Looking forward to see the next round of contributions. Remember, you can do as much or as little as you want (or manage to squeeze into your schedule), and there are lots of different prompts on the menu.
Other exciting things
Additionally, we’d like to highlight some other holiday-themed challenges, exchanges and projects going on at this time. As usual, you are welcome to use our prompts in your contributions to these projects, or to combine prompts from other challenges with prompts from the Holiday Feast challenge for additional fun!
Hanukkah-themed Prompts
Indy has come up with a set of Hanukkah-inspired prompts for the Tolkien fandom. You can create for as many as you want to, whether it’s one or all eight, in any mode of fannish expression– fic, meta, art, fanmix, etc. You do not have to be Jewish to create for them nor do you have to post your fanwork(s) during Hanukkah!
Fandom Stocking
Inspired by the Yuletide tradition of treats and a fandom tradition in its twelfth year, Fandom Stocking collects participants’ fannish wishlists. Once these are posted, other participants can leave screened comments with fic, icons or personal messages to spread some holiday cheer. Sign-ups have begun and last until December 15!

The 2018 Silmladylove Winter Prompt Fest
Prompting and claiming for the silmladylove Winter Prompt Fest on AO3 is now OPEN! While you need an AO3 account to claim prompts, but you can submit prompts to the mods and create responses on other platforms even if you can’t (or don’t want to) make an account on AO3. Come all, and sweeten the holiday season with some Tolkien femslash to be unveiled on Christmas Eve!
Femslash Review Fest 2018
Femslash Review Fest will begin on December 16. For two weeks, leave reviews on femslash fanworks and recommend them to others. A list of this year’s optional themes can be found here. Find out more at the Femslash Review Feast Tumblr comm and/or read the FAQ here!
