Today we begin reading the Appendices:
- Appendix A on the origins of the Legend, with sections on (I) Attila and Gundahari (the historic figures), and (II) Sigmund, Sigurd and the Nibelungs (the more legendary or mythological figures);
- Appendix B containing another version of the Prophecy of the Sibyl (the Voluspa from the Edda), a version that is independent of the first section of the Lay of the Volsungs (Upphaf) and in a different metrical form (stanzas of rhyming couplets);
- Appendix C containing two fragments of an Old English poem by Tolkien (with translation and commentary), closely based on a Scandinavian poem from the Edda, entitled Attila (after the title of the Edda poem), and dealing with Gunnar’s decision to accept Atli’s invitation and Gunnar’s death.
