The loyal people of Númenor build a city in the south of Middle-earth that will endure through the ages.

The chief city of this southern realm was Osgiliath, through the midst of which the Great River flowed; and the Númenóreans built there a great bridge, upon which there were towers and houses of stone wonderful to behold, and tall ships came up out of the sea to the quays of the city.

"The chief city of this southern realm was Osgiliath..." (Sindarin: Citadel of the Stars?? Have to check to make sure of that. But sounds sooo Elvish, doesn't it? Not very Mannish at all.) Wow! The feel and sound of the name of that city alone makes me want to write something about it. That could be a good, long time into the future, if ever--since I am caught up where I am right now (very early in the First Age).

It sounds Elvish to me too ... but I'm no language expert. :) Did you ever find out?

Lazy me--when I said "check" I meant ask Claudio. I learned somewhere that the trick is not to know everything, but to know who to ask! (It just gets embarrassing at a certain point.) I do intend to buy some language books one of these days... I will ask.

Wrote Claudio just now and got the following response: "That's what I'd think... I don't have any reference sources to check, but City of Stars would be my guess." I'd put my money on that.
