Back to Middle-earth Month 2011 (Yes, Really!)

Every March, the SWG hosts an event for Back to Middle-earth Month. So why am I bringing this up now, in September? Especially right on the heels of the birthday event??

Next March, I will be in the midst of my student-teaching internship. I don't expect to have a life at all for those three months, much less time for web-related activities, so I am getting March's event together now so that it's ready to go, and all I or my comods have to do is upload the correct pages each day.

Given that, we are seeking ideas about what to do for this year's event, so if there's something you'd really like to do (or not do), please do let us know. Considering my schedule, the event will have to be rather low-impact from an administrative perspective (i.e., it will not be like last year's admin-intensive event! :) We're open to all ideas, and even if we decide that we can't use a particular idea this year, that doesn't mean it won't be out of consideration for future years.

Thank you, Eli! It likely will be a challenge format simply because that's relatively easy from an admin perspective. Artwork is always welcome for our events, so you're good there! :) We probably won't do a compilation of older works just because that is a lot of work that I won't have time for in the midst of my internship. However, recs for older works are always welcome on the LJ comm or Yahoo group. :)

Any suggestions for a way to involve charities without requiring a lot of behind-the-scenes work from the admins would be most welcome! :) (I'm really not trying to be lazy; I don't even know if I'll have time for page uploads because I'll be student teaching, and one of my comods at least will be in similarly chaotic RL circumstances.)

I loved it back in (I think?) 2009, when you just had a daily prompt and people posted in with entries. Once a day was even a bit stressful; maybe thrice-weekly would work better? But it allowed me to focus on writing and could be exported quite easily to other groups. I kind of missed that last year.

So whatever else you do, it would be very nice to have something like that again.

(Hope this doesn't sound ungrateful! I am amazed and thankful for all your work. But you did ask what we wanted... :-))

Thank you, Marta! No it doesn't sound ungrateful at all; we definitely want to hear what people liked and didn't like and always take comments/feedback/requests from members into account. :) We generally try not to repeat events, which was why last year's was different from 2009's, since different formats appeal to different people. 2012's also will probably not be a daily challenge type, if we do that in 2011. (And, in all likelihood, that probably is the format we'll use--or something like it--because we can do the groundwork now and then just do a daily/thrice-weekly/whatever update. I'll be student teaching, and at least one of my comods will also be deeply involved with RL stuff, so we will lack the people-power for anything even approximating an event like last year's! :D)

Thanks, Linda! That's where the mods and I were headed for practical reasons, so with the support for the idea we've seen, that's likely where we'll go. :)
