March 8: Dorthonion

In the north of Beleriand, find the intriguing Dorthinion countryside, where many exciting expeditions await you. This realm is situated in the North, from the plains to the sloping hillsides. Known for its extensive pine forests, the majority of Dorthonion consists of a high plateau with bare and rocky peaks rising to higher altitudes than the mountains of the nearby Ered Wethrin, making it ideal for mountaineering. Did you always wanted to follow in the footsteps of Beren, Lúthien, Beleg and Túrin in their heroic quests but want to keep both feet on the ground? You can find a wild adventure here, in the place where you can be tested and be amongst the finest and fiercest warriors, taking on rugged nature. If roughing it isn't for you, take a journey instead to Tarn Aeluin, in whose waters the reflected stars at night will free your inner romantic.

Today's Challenge:
From the lone shieling of the misty island,
Mountains divide us, and the waste of seas -
Yet still the blood is strong, the heart is Highland,
And we in dreams behold the Hebrides!
Fair these broad meads, these hoary woods are grand;
But we are exiles from our fathers' land.

- from the “Canadian Boat Song”, attributed to John Galt

Write a story or poem or create a piece of artwork reflecting identification with or connection to one’s land, country or culture.

Or write a story or poem or create a piece of artwork featuring kilts.

Dorthonion Passport Stamp Passport Stamp:
Once you complete the challenge, you may save today's image or copy the code below to display your passport stamp wherever HTML is acceptable. To have your stamp added to your passport, please comment on this post.

To the best of my knowledge, all passports have been sent out to those who have been commenting here! If, for some reason, you haven't heard from me or one of the other mods about your passport, either leave a comment here or contact me at DawnFelagund@gmail.com.

Please comment on this post when you complete your entry for today's challenge, and we will add Dorthonion's stamp to your passport. If your piece is publicly posted, we encourage you to share a link so that others can enjoy your story, poem, or artwork!

Remember that responses need only answer the challenge in the blue box. (Today, we have two possible challenges! You need only answer one, of course, to receive your stamp.) You do not need to include the day's location in your response.

If you're just joining us, just a reminder that none of these challenges have due dates. If you see a past challenge you like, please do respond to it and let us know so that we can stamp your passport!

Finally (and then I'll shut up), I've been asked this a few times now, so that tells me we need a rules clarification. A single piece can satisfy multiple challenges and be eligible for stamps for all of them. For example, if you've chosen to write a 10,000-word story that satisfies three challenges, that is perfectly acceptable, and all three stamps are yours. We want our authors who write longer works to feel just as welcome and able to succeed as those who prefer ficlets and other short works! I've updated the event guidelines to reflect this clarification.

2nd breakfast perhaps? :D Enjoy!!! It's nearly 7.30 in the evening here, bedtime for the kids, so yes, 9 hours apart, west coast of the States perhaps?

Haha, yes, 2nd breakfast, I had brown sugar and cinnamon PopTarts. (For first breakfast I had chocolate mini Weetabix from the British Food Centre. Eight dollars for one box...made my mum upset with me for it, but imported and all, so...)

Yes, west coast, just so! California to be precise :) Nine hours ahead...so not the UK, then? Germany or somewhere in the area?

I was just looking if you collected more stamps for on your passport, but with the tsunami and all... you're ok?

oh, yes, Rhapsody!!! I'm fine. I've written for every day...I've just been having LJ issues and been lazy about getting them up on MPTT! I'm sorry!

San Jose is inland, about an hour's drive from the California coast...I sincerely doubt a tsunami would get us, it'd have to drown San Francisco, Santa Cruz and Monterey first...That would be ick. I'm fine, seriously. Is it all right if I still have my stamps up to day 11? I'll get them up on MPTT as soon as possible, I promise.
