Motivational Wednesday: The Impetuous Participant Award

Sorry, Treebeard, but this week, we will be hasty!

We've had around forty sign-ups for the Season of Writing Dangerously so far. How many of you have started working on your projects? Or how many of you are still procrastinating? *raises hand* For our very first weekly motivational post, we would like to encourage our participants to get started on their projects, whether just dipping in a toe or diving in headfirst.

Because what would Middle-earth be without some impetuosity? What it Sam had said, "I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you and it as well ... tomorrow, maybe"? Or if Fëanor hadn't urged the Noldor to Middle-earth? What if Pippin had thought twice before swearing his sword to Denethor? What if Galadriel had longed for an ottoman, a blanket, and a remote control rather than to see new lands?

In honor of all of our impetuous characters and the writers and artists who love them, we offer the Impetuous Participant Award! How to earn this award? Start your project by this time next week. That's all. Just get started and see what happens.

Impetuous Participants are welcome to display one of the lovely Impetuous Participant banners or icons to show their membership among the people of Arda who didn't let grass grow under their feet. Many thanks to Elleth, Angelica, and Lyra for their work on these banners!

These banners are awesome!

I've started as well. I've several ideas about answers to drabble prompts and written at least five rough drafts (the hard work for me is getting them into the exact word count, for as an ESL I find drabbles quite difficult), am re-reading a chapter of LotR to find quotes for the other project to use secondary prompts, and am plotting that one-shot. Joining here gave me the necessary push to come to that stage. :o) I'm also re-reading small fics for the podcast project.

Wow! You've made a lot of progress, it seems. Congrats. :)

I think drabbles are hard too. I am not of the mindset of "Hey, I have five minutes and want to write something, so I'll punch out a drabble ..." Since every word literally counts, I think it's much more complicated than that and truly excellent drabbles take the same amount of effort as longer pieces.

And I'm thrilled that this challenge is serving as a motivator. That's what we're going for--the world can never have too much Tolkienfic! :)

Thanks, but this part of the process is always easy for me. ;o)

I aim at writing a small story with each drabble, but I don't always manage. The first is already done, and now I'm back to fretting how I could write the intended one-shot with as little research and canon knowledge about it as I have at the moment. *g*
