Just a friendly reminder that our quarterly challenge is something a little different: During the Around the Fire challenge, we tell stories to each other, whether at a campfire or gathered around the fireplace in the winter. This is an informal story request challenge, not a ficswap, so you are welcome to both request and write stories, but we cannot guarantee that all requests will be filled. Visit this post to make a request and read the full challenge guidelines. Click on the cut below to view all the requests that have been made so far.
Once you fill a request, simply comment to the person who posted the prompt with a link so that they can read what you wrote!
If you're participating in this challenge, I've put together some banners (below the second cut) that you're free to use: Either upload them to your own photo storage space or copy/paste the HTML below the image you want.
Around the Fire Challenge Requests
- I would like a conversation between Caranthir and Maedhros, in Valinor, once they both leave the Halls of Mandos. Please don't write them at odds with each other.
- Isildur's wife hearing the news of Isildur's death and receiving the shards of Narsil from Ohtar.
- Maglor lives alone on the Isle of Himling. Someone visits the island, not knowing it’s inhabited. What happens?
- 3rd/4th age Valinor-- Culture clashes and unanswered questions! For example... How do the Vanyar feel about the influx of relative "newcomers" to Valinor at the end of the 3rd Age? What happens when all of the Elves who can claim right to the title "High King" are re-embodied? Are any of the sons of Fëanor ever released from the Halls of Mandos, and if so, what is the reaction from the Teleri? What happens when members of a family who left Valinor for Middle-earth reunite with family members who didn't leave? Lots of territory to explore here! :)
- I would love to see a scene or read some dialogue between Beleg and Turin at the time of the Dagor Dagorath...Is Turin forgiven? How does Beleg feel when he sees Turin again? Are they ready for the battle of all battles? (Slash or Gen-- anything goes!)
- I'd like a story about Thingol, but not that maniac who ended up under a dwarf's axe, only a happy man, king, husband or father -- your pick. Thank you :)
- I would like a story about Rían discovering her talent as a singer and songwriter as a young girl. Did she sing any songs about events we're aware of?
- I would like a story about a reembodied Celegorm meeting Elladan, and realizing how much he resembles Lúthien.
- I'd be interested in a take on the love triangle between Gwindor, Finduilas and Turin that tries to pay attention to all three points of view on their own terms, as much as possible.
- A Maeglin fic about how he felt when both parents died.

Date: 2016-09-10 12:57 pm (UTC)Bobby and I moved to Vermont this summer, and we're both teaching at new schools (obviously! nine hours is a bit of a long commute :), and life is happy and good. I've started writing again too. I finished my MA this past spring, and between not having to contend with classes and not having to spend two hours in the car driving to and from work, I have time for stuff like that again.
Hopefully the muse will nibble, even if not bite right away. :) I'd love to see you around again!
