Fëanorians again, surprise, surprise!
Aug. 18th, 2005 10:33 amOuch. These are two drabbles (which I admit I have mixed feelings about, at least when I'm writing them myself!) because they are all I had time for today, (yesterday, now!) I was too lazy to write any of my longer stuff and I needed to write. It got all a bit weird on me though, Maglor appears to be going through a bitter stage! The first is Maedhros after Thangorodrim, the second one sort of answers the 'What would Maglor have done?' challenge at the Silmarillion Writers Guild, or rather, it's Maglor speaking just after Maedhros dies, and so maybe it doesn't.
It's grim and it made me want to kick the pair of them. Hard. What is it with Fëanorians anyway, or is it just mine? Either way, it's so damned angsty it made my teeth ache *mutters*
Warning for a very oblique reference to a M/M relationship.
Makalaurë, do you remember that day? You, in whom many saw such light, were my match in darkness. Your will was the stronger. My gentle, murdering brother, your voice and gift holds the very breath of life in thrall, and you closed your fist around mine without hesitation.
You forced my head up, made me look into the depths of my curse. Your fingers tight about my chin, you did not allow me to flinch away from what I feared. I hated you for that. Careful, ruthless Káno, in whose compassionate eyes death comes not lightly bought.
I salute you.
Compassionate Maglor?
You lay wrapped in your pity like the darkness you longed for. He told me you had begged for death on Thangorodrim, that he could not give it to you.
Pity.
I could have, for my fallen idol, for Losgar. You took my life as surely as did our father. More so; for I loved you more.
I forced you to live, so that you could die. For that, that costly irony, I could have killed you.
A bard deals in truths, sometimes, and sometimes, in lies. Which is it now, I wonder?
I smile, you would know.
