Below is a list of the fanworks submitted for last month's Breaking Boundaries challenge. As always, links go to the Table of Contents, where you can learn more about the fanwork. I hope you give a few of them a look and, if you like what you see, please let the creator know by leaving a comment!
Arrival of a King by Tyelca. A few years after the War of the Ring, the new King visits Umbar for the first time.
First Impression by Grundy. Thingol trusts his kin above all others. When he receives word from Finrod, it is his young kin he sends to meet the representatives of the Noldor.
Hidden Gems by eris_of_imladris. Nerdanel realizes her true feelings for Fëanor at a gathering ball. Based on a headcanon lent to me by firsthousepacifist.
A Kinslayer and a Queen by LadyBrooke. Amras knows who the elf in his lands is, if only because her children do not understand that why they fled Doriath when their father kept the Silmaril.
Beren&Lúthien - A Lay of Leithian fanmix by Lyra. A playlist of 20 Songs that, more or less seriously, retell the Lay of Leithian. A/N: The "Music of the Waters" theme finally gave me the push I needed to make the Beren and Lúthien-themed fanmix I had actually wanted to make for last May's publication of... well, you know what. Since Beren and Lúthien break pretty much every boundary in the book, I feel that it also answers the Breaking Boundaries challenge pretty neatly!
The Longest Journey I Have Known by grey_gazania. When Celebrían sails to Valinor following her attack and injury, she is accompanied by her friend Ianneth, wife of Fingon and mother of Gil-galad. Together, the two women seek to find a place in an unfamiliar land.
Love Unfulfilled in Dorthonion by Kaylee Arafinwiel. Andreth, called Saelind by the Elves, had her heart broken by Aegnor...
...but Aegnor was no less wounded by his actions. He poured out his heart to his beloved twin, Nerwen, just before flame engulfed Dorthonion...
...and later, remembering his death, he relates his last moments to Findis.
Market Day by grey_gazania. Ulfang's granddaughter encounters Dwarves for the first time. A slice-of-life ficlet featuring characters from my Loyalty series.
The Songs by Himring. In the early days of the Noldorin settlement in East Beleriand, an ominous arrival disturbs the peace of mind of Maedhros and his people.
To the East by LadyBrooke. In a different world, Andreth wanders to the East and meets another wise-woman instead of Aegnor.
The Waterlily by hennethgalad. A sailor of the Avari, from the distant South, has a vision of the War of Wrath.
Housekeeping notes: I will be working on updating stamp collections this weekend through the beginning of next week. Hopefully they will be caught up by next week! (I'm in my usual state of feeling like I'm so far behind that I'm in first. But I will do my best!) At this point, if you need a commenter stamp for the January "Resolution" challenge or earlier, please let me know, as I won't be checking these stories for new comments after this next round of stamps. You can always comment on this post or email me at moderator@silmarillionwritersguild.org.
