Admin Post: April 2019 Newsletter Posted!
Apr. 7th, 2019 05:24 pmThe April 2019 Newsletter has been posted!
Even if this edition is later than usual (there is a reason for this delay, read on…), we have lots of exciting things happening in the SWG. You still have a couple of days to participate in our “Hidden Figures” challenge, honoring rare characters and textual ghosts. (Our Challenges page has full details.) The reading of Sigurd and Gudrun has begun over on our Discord. We also welcome the new joiners to our archive, recap B2MeM, and have a quick synopsis of the Tolkien at UVM Conference!
This month's biography is Hareth, by Oshun . As we honor rare characters and textual ghosts this month, we consider Hareth of the House of Haladin, on the surface yet another woman defined primarily by her [male] relations but who, with a closer look at the details of the text, begins to come to life and ask for a story of her own.
If you're looking for new reads, many new works were added or updated on our archive during the past month of March. Additionally, our Around the World and Web section includes recent articles of interest, fandom events, and calls for papers. Last but not least, we have stalled issue of this newsletter to be able to bring to you a hot-off-the -press review by Dawn Felagund of the newly released Tolkien biopic film.
As every month, it is a dedicated team of volunteers who make our newsletter possible. Join me in thanking Oshun, Elleth, Janeways, Lotrfan, Russandol, and Angelica for creating and compiling our newsletter content.
