There is so little in the Silm about Aegnor that I decided to post his piece today as well, for a sons of Finarfin double-bill.

Aegnor

Potted History
*Also known as Aikanáro, Ambaráto and Angamaitë (HoME Vol. 12)
*He fell in love with a mortal woman named Andreth, but did not marry her (HoME Vol. 10)

In Valinor
with Fingon stood as they ever did Angrod and Aegnor, sons of Finarfin. But these held their peace and spoke not against their fathers

Ard-galen
From the northern slopes of Dorthonion Angrod and Aegnor, sons of Finarfin, looked out over the fields of Ard-galen, and were the vassals of their brother Finrod, lord of Nargothrond; their people were few, for the land was barren, and the great highlands behind were deemed to be a bulwark that Morgoth would not lightly seek to cross

Fingolfin wants a war
Among the chieftains of the Noldor Angrod and Aegnor alone were of like mind with the King; for they dwelt in regions whence Thangorodrim could be descried, and the threat of Morgoth was present to their thought

Battle of Sudden Flame
The sons of Finarfin bore most heavily the brunt of the assault, and Angrod and Aegnor were slain

It does seem unfair, that their story was glossed over. I mean, I think too, that their tragic story affected so many later. Finrod had made an oath to Beren's Dad, sure, but perhaps he was trying to help out his kinswoman Luthien in her romance too having seen that Aegnor was wrong to stay away from Andreth? That it simply caused even more pain? And Galadriel interfering in the Aragorn/Arwen romance. She knew what happened to little bro, as well as Luthien and she probably figured there's worse things than becoming mortal or loosing your mortal spouse. Elvish memory is more real than mortal, and had Aegnor married Andreth, he would at least have had some wonderful memories. Plus, I have a sneaky thought their kid/s could have been very important characters.

Oh well, I guess we just have to put it down to one of those wonderful plot holes Tolkein left us to fill in!
