New Member and Help Please?

Hello, all.

I am relatively new to Silm writing (I have done LotR for a while). I recently wrote a one chapter, Maglor-centric story that, while it is not completely horrid, is in need of a decent beta. I edited it myself as best I could, but am afraid to continue and risk doing the story harm.

The story is untitled. It was written for Christmas, is set in the Modern era and necessarily AU. I have it posted in my LJ if anyone cares to peek, and if someone, preferably with beta experience, would help me, I'd be much obliged.

Um, I can't do it until after the New Year, but if you haven't found anyone I'll step up. Maglor is my favourite Elf and I am really pernickity about him and the Silm, but I'm fairly gentle too! So if you haven't found anyone by then, I should be able to do it.

What do you want the beta for? Grammar, punctuation, story?

Oh and welcome, we're a nice bunch!

I will definitely have a look at it. I have experience as an editor and do betas but it generally takes a while (as I have a tendency to take on at least five million and one projects :^P), but if you want detailed help with your story, just let me know! :)

That would be great. I only have one request--whenever you do get around to betaing it, could you either explain your thoughts/reasons for doing things, or could we talk about it? I like to know what/why I'm changing things--and it always helps in making changes if I can run it by somebody to make sure it's actually an improvement...

Oh, no worries. I have an (annoying?) tendency to write comments as long as the story. I tend to overexplain if nothing else. :^/

How do you want me to get it to you? Or do you just want the beta stuff in the comments? Whatever you prefer!

I have come across this message almost by accident and I remembered reading your story soon after it was posted at ff.net. Let me tell you it's anything but horrid. It was so realistic and so painful, so Christmas and yet so Silmarillion. I hope I'm making some sense. I loved it, up to the very end when Maglor finds the strength and the generosity to leave his father's precious heirloom behind. And I think I was most impressed by the way you made his brothers speak in his mind.

I admire the fact that you have taken on the difficult task of writing something concerning Maglor's fate. I can hardly bring myself to think of it and I'm sad every time I try.

Please, write more. I will certainly be reading.

another Maglor writer here, I did glance over it but I've been a bit wee tired of late (I am expecting a baby this month), so once I find more energy I will most certainly read it! Maybe another nice idea is to join do_me_maglor where you can share your material with fellow Maglor writers :)
