Stories, Poems, and Artwork Needed for a House of Fëanor Compilation

Next month will bring the seventh day of the seventh month of the year '07 ... is it any surprise that this has gotten some of us thinking of Fëanor and his seven sons?

Few are the characters in The Silmarillion that have inspired such a vast and diverse wealth of creative material as the Fëanorians. Next month, we'd like to honor that on SWG, and one of the ways we hope to do so is by illustrating each character's personal history with our own creative work.

We are putting together a compilation of short fiction, poetry, artwork, and excerpts of longer works about each character in the House of Fëanor. SWG is home to many talented writers and artists, and we hope that you'll help us with this project!

Ooooooh! I'm up to my ears in RL, but for that project I will MAKE time, whether I have it or no! :D

This is a ridiculously excited Elleth, really... and as I'm already working on a photomanip compilation of Silmarillion characters and scenes, your idea does come in handy! I only skimmed the website, so I don't know if there are any special rules for artwork submission, but maybe some of this sort (http://ladyelleth.deviantart.com/gallery/) will do? No Feanorian pieces yet (except for one, but that's about the parents), but those that are in the works will probably go in the same direction. :D Is that okay?

My OFC asked me to remind you taht you need to note the Silm club at dA definitely with those, espcially Elwings (if you haven't yet, she'll log in there sooner or later).

I already did with a few of them, several days ago, - not sure if I had the second Elwing pic up already, but as this is a WIP I'll likely send another note. Thanks for the suggestion, though. :)

... WOW. You did a great job on that painting, and Maedhros definitely does look dangerous. I think Elwing just gave an 'eep' and jumped again, and somewhere in the back of my head Nerdanel is being very upset with her sons for setting fire to yet something else.

Don't worry, this Maedhros is quite friendly guy, don't listen to him. Though I plan to paint him looking dangerous, just in case ;)

You're not being bothersome, not at all. Of course I'd like to be included the compilation, I'm just tidying up my submissions (3 pics, though two are AU) and typing up the drabbles to accompany two of them. I hope it's still going to be on time... but I think I read somewhere that the deadline might be extended? I just can't find that info anymore... :/ Or did I dream it?

That's fine. I'm not extending the deadline in general because I've had such an overwhelming response. But I'll extend it for people whom I knew were working on things. So that would include you. :) I just know you've been busy and really love the Nerd/Fean piece. Hence the harassment. :)

Good to know - will take a look there, then. I'm not even asking for myself, actually, because I do think I will get the submissions done in time. oloriel 'only' has her Maedhros, Maglor, Celegorm and Caranthir pictures finished and I promised I'd send her the info... and if anyone is busy, it's her.

I'm really really glad you like the Ghost picture, and I will send it over soon, including the drabble, even though that is not beta'd... but I hope I won't manage to press too many errors into 100 words. ;)

Dear Dawn, I'm gifted but can't compare in creation with my father. Yet you should not envy me anything, I almost never use it. I prefer to read than make graphics.
Though maybe I should take her tablet, open Painter - that is the software she tortures - and paint her. Yes, her. She would finally learn what does it mean being tickled on face all the time. Or I might fix that armour, it's really nothing what I had on me. But I have to admit I had some hopes in that image.

I'll pretend I haven't seen that talk about teddy bears and bananas. *smirk*

Nerdanel tells me he was the most rash one of the bunch, and the one most likely to start disquiet... so that seems fitting. I agree on Curufin being the most ambitious, actually, but that's more a gut feeling than anything else.

So yeah, that's two swords. People keep telling me they look like bananas or umbrellas... now what would he do with those, I wonder? :D

OME. Nerdanel and Feanor ... you know we're doing a Feanor Day for this, right? How much do I have to beg, plead, and cajole for that one, of Nerdanel and his ghost? :^D

But they're all gorgeous ... I had no idea that you had such Photoshop talent! I'm envious. My PS skills are very third-grade. :^P

Thank you very much for the feedback - and to be honest, I didn't know myself. I've been working with that program for almost 7 (hah, there it is again!) years now, but photomanipulation is almost completely new terrain to me. If you want any tips, though, feel free to ask, or drop me a mail! (And then there's the Nerdanel essay commentary I meant to get back to you about... argh.)

I know this program for around 7 years either :D and I only recently learned that while pressing shift it will paint a straight line (I knew it makes regular circles this way, though). It's so complicated that learning all will take years.

Feanor Day will be either the first day or the seventh ... most likely the seventh, because if I make it the first, then Ambarussa Day with be 07/07/07, and much as I would like to see more done on the twins, I'm not sure they belong on The Day.

So let's say the seventh. Which will make

July 1: Maedhros Day
July 2: Maglor Day
July 3: Celegorm Day
July 4: Caranthir Day
(also American Independence Day, which gives me some ideas for yours and Sirielle's crazy Feanorian project!)
July 5: Curufin Day
July 6: Ambarussa Day
July 7: Feanor Day

... with possibly Nerdanel and Celebrimbor Days to follow later in the month, but I'm much too tired to contemplate that now! :^D

Also, on the essay, when it's done, it's done. Clearly, I won't be doing anything with it for a while (though if we have a Nerdanel Day, say at the end of July, it might be nice to have it up then? But not essential!)
